Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF)

Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, (HEERF) The CARES Act, which establishes and funds the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF), directs institutions of higher education to provide emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus.

Triton College signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and the assurance on April 16, 2020. Triton College received $2,105,949 from the Department of Education for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

As of June 1, 2020, $1,526,400 has been disbursed. The estimated number of students that may be eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 is 2,833 and thus far, 2,544 students have received funding.

The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants is as follows:

Students who meet the following criteria will receive $600.

Triton students eligible to receive the CARES Act funding must meet the following criteria:

  • Triton College degree-seeking students or certificate-seeking students enrolled in programs located at the River Grove campus for at least three or more credit hours as of March 16, 2020.
  • Completion of a 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 FAFSA and up-to-date financial aid file.
  • Students enrolled in the full spring semester as of March 16, 2020.
  • Students enrolled in the second seven-week session.
  • Enrolled in at least one face-to-face class.

Students enrolled completely online in the Spring 2020 semester are ineligible. Students do not need to be enrolled in summer courses to receive their $600 allocation.
